Aida Lopez Pena

Aida Lopez Peña, lovingly known by all as “Mamita,” passed away on April 14, 2020, at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her son, Reynaldo. She is survived by her six children: Josefina, Delia, Elena, Jorge, Lucinda and Dina; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Our Mamita began her long and incredible life in Cusco, Peru, on August 17, 1924. Mamita lived the majority of her life in her beloved Peru, where she embarked on many adventures that she later shared as tales that have been passed down through the generations. Not only was she a master at weaving stories, but she also had unbelievable crocheting and knitting abilities. When Mamita wasn’t crafting, she was creating Peruvian culinary magic in the kitchen. Mamita infused all her future generations with the love and pride of her motherland. Despite trying times in her life, Mamita’s resiliency, strength of character, and work ethic never faltered. Mamita was loved by all that knew her. We are fortunate to have had her in our lives. We will always remember her smile that lit any room she was in and her generous hugs. Despite language barriers, Mamita’s warmth was felt by all. Our hearts broke when we couldn’t be by her side at the hospital and hold her hand in her last days. We miss her dearly but know she is watching over us and still comforting us from afar. Her legacy lives within each one of us. Aida Lopez Pena queridamente conocida como Mamita por todos, falleció el 14 de abril de 2020, a la edad de 95 años. Ella es precedida en muerte por su hijo, Reynaldo. Le sobreviven sus hijos: Josefina, Delia, Elena, Jorge, Lucinda, y Dina; 14 nietos y 21 bisnietos. Nuestra Mamita, la cual fue querida por todos que la conocían, empezó su larga vida en su querido Cusco, Perú el 17 de agosto de 1924. Mamita vivió la mayoría de su increible vida en Perú lleno de muchas experiencias. Cuando nos contaba sobre su vida con tanto detalle nos sentíamos como que hubiésemos estado ahí. Encima de ser una gran narradora, nuestra Mamita tenía una abilidad unica para tejer. Mamita tenía el arte en las manos en varias formas, incluso en el arte culinario. Nuestra Mamita nos dejó una herencia cultural que siempre llevaremos en nuestros corazones con mucho orgullo. A pesar de los tiempos difíciles en su vida, la resiliencia, fuerza de carácter y la ética de trabajo de Mamita nunca fallo. Somos afortunados de haberla tenido en nuestras vidas y siempre recordáremos su sonrisa la cual alumbraba las vidas de todos. Apesar de que no habló inglés, la ternura de Mamita se sentía por todos. Nuestros corazones estuvieron y siguen tristes por no haber estado con ella en sus últimos momentos. La extrañamos mucho pero sabemos de que ella ahora descansa en paz.
