Hillary Press

On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Hillary Press, of Springfield, VA, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 51. Hillary was born on May 30, 1971 in Washington, DC to Michael and Nancy (Kauffman) Dick. Hillary graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993 with a degree in social work and then a Masters in 1998 and obtained Masters of Education in Counseling and Development in 2008 from George Mason University. She was a fierce and passionate advocate for children. Working for Fairfax County Public Schools as a School Counselor and then as the Family Partnerships Specialist. Her extensive leadership roles included President of the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA), Southern Region Chair of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Southern Region Representative of the ACA Governing Council. Hillary received many accolades and recognition for her work, including being nominated by colleagues and awarded the 2012-2013 Fairfax County Public Schools Elementary Counselor of the Year Award and the 2013 Virginia Counselors Association Counselor of the Year Award. Her legislative advocacy included serving on the Lieutenant Governor’s Commonwealth Council for Childhood Success, which focused on the Virginia HJ486 Mental Health Screening in Elementary Schools Survey Team (2015-17). In January 2014, she received a Commending Resolution from the Virginia Legislature that honored her efforts on behalf of low income students and families. Hillary utilized her voice to lift others in her school, community and profession. She was a role model and mentor to colleagues, fellow counselors, counselors-in-training, and counseling leaders. Her long lasting impact is immeasurable. Hillary was preceded in death by her father, Michael. She is survived by her husband, Michael (Richard), their three children, Elissa, Tabitha, and Rory and husky Blaze. A funeral service will be held for Hillary at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, 22315 on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 9:30am, followed by burial at King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia 22042 at 11AM, with lunch after at the Press home, 7814 Carrleigh Parkway Springfield, VA 22152 In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Hillary’s honor to Small/Large Cell Cervical Cancer Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center here or GoFundMe in support of her children here
