Simon Lawrence Richard was born on July 3, 1940 in Baton Rouge, LA. He died on February 10, 2017 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He was a retired member of the U.S. Navy who served four tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Blue Eagles Crew, the first crew to equip and broadcast live TV from the air to troops on the ground in Vietnam. Some of the awards he received are the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was preceded in death by his mother Geneva Robertson and his father Marc Simon Richard, his son Deric Monget Richard, and his brother Ulysses Daniel Richard. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Patricia Monget Richard, his cherished daughter Thea Lynette Richard and his cherished son Xavier Monget Richard (Claudia). He is survived by his six siblings: Dr. H. Marks Richard (Bertha), Raphael Richard (Belinda), Beverly Richard, Cynthia Ford (Michael), Alice Deggs, Lisa Jones (Jeffrey). Relatives and friends may visit at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA 22315 on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Rita Catholic Church, 3815 Russell Rd. Alexandria, VA 22305 on Monday, February 20 at 10 AM. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to The American Diabetes Association.
