Obituary for William Hutton MacDonald

William Hutton (Bill) MacDonald died peacefully on July 7, 2018 following complications from a massive subdural hematoma. He was 75.

Bill was born on January 21, 1943 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was raised in Montréal before the MacDonald family moved to Sudbury, Ontario in 1953. Bill attended Wembley Elementary School before attending and graduating from Sudbury High School. Before entering Laurentian University, where he graduated with a BA in Geography, Bill spent a year in Europe, traveling and working in several countries.

He spent several years as a representative of London Life Insurance Company where he served in a variety of capacities. He moved to the United States in the early ‘90s where he formed his own company with a financial planning focus.

He was an avid golfer and curler. He was an active volunteer at both the Potomac Curling Club in Laurel, Maryland and Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton, VA.

Bill is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sister, Carole, and his brother, Doug. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce. He is also survived by five children, Kristi, Deryk, Cameron, Tori, and Tessa, and four grandchildren.

A celebration of Bill’s life is being planned for late September in the greater Washington, DC area. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the Potomac Curling Club (http://backend.curldc.org/donate/).
