Obituary for Terrence Joseph Huber

Col. Terrence J. Huber, USAF (Ret.), of Alexandria died peacefully at his home on July 17, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Terry was born in New Hampton, IA and graduated from Regina High School and the University of Iowa. A proud Iowan, he was forever loyal to his Hawkeye roots. He accepted his commission as an officer in the US Air Force in 1966 and served in Vietnam. Upon his return, he was assigned to military intelligence roles at the US Department of Defense, with the US Southern Command in Panama, and later with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington D.C. He retired a Colonel in the United States Air Force in 1989. His major decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, awarded by the Secretary of Defense; the Legion of Merit; the Bronze Star; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Defense Commendation Medal.

Upon retirement, Terry served for many years as the President of the Lake D'evereux Homeowners Association and joyfully attended to the needs and activities of his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, illustrious storyteller and a dedicated student of Civil War history. He was not afraid to dance, proudly displayed his 1972 Corvette in his driveway, and found any item bearing his beloved sports teams worthy of a place in his home.

Most notably, he was fiercely dedicated to his wife of 51 years, his family and his faith. Terry saw a friend in everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife Diane Walker (McMahon) Huber, his adoring daughters Katherine Duffie of Ashburn, VA and Stephanie Timperman of Charlotte, NC along with his sons-in-law and five cherished grandchildren; his brothers Thomas Huber and Timothy Huber and his beloved step-father Fred Erbe.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Huber Erbe and his father, Donald A Huber.

A funeral mass and military burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on a date forthcoming.
