Obituary for Paul Raymond Myrick, LTC(Ret.)

On Wednesday August 16, 2017, Paul R. Myrick, LTC(Ret.) passed away at his residence at Belmont Bay in Woodbridge, VA after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marla; daughters Shannon, Lindsay and Brittany; and brother, David.

Paul attended Rochester Institute of Technology where he obtained a BS in biomedical computing. In 1993, he earned a Masters in Business Management from the Naval Post Graduate School.

Paul proudly served his country for over 20 years in the US Army. His military career ran the gamut from field Artilleryman to acquisition professional. Command assignments included overseeing a battery in the 82nd Airborne Division and service as an Operations Officer in a Pershing Battalion. His last years on active duty service was with PEO Tactical Missiles working as the Product Manager for the M270A1 Improved MLRS Launcher. During this assignment, Paul was deployed to the Middle East as the Operations Officer for the Assistant Secretary of the Army Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Operations Cell during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. His other awards and qualifications include: the Ranger Tab, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), the Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), the Army Superior Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon and the Army Staff Identification Badge.

Following Paul’s Army retirement in 2003, he held senior positions with ATK, Lockheed Martin and System Studies and Simulations, Inc. In September 2014, Paul was appointed President of Chemring Countermeasures USA, part of Chemring North America.

Paul was a member and former president of Fairfax Lee Chapter of AUSA. He was also a member of DAV, Military Order of the Carabao, and Capitol Cannoneers Chapter of US Field Artillery Association.

Paul was an avid Washington Capitals and Redskins fan who enjoyed both attending and watching games with friends. Hardworking and kind, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and love for telling stories.

Guests are invited to a visitation on Monday August 21, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Christ Church, 7600 Ox Rd Fairfax Station 22039. A memorial service will at 1:00 pm. Interment: Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
