Obituary for Lola Louise Wilt

On Saturday, July 22nd, Lola Louise Wilt, age 92, entered her heavenly home. Lola was born in the old Alexandria Hospital to the late Eustace and Lola Butler. She was a native Alexandrian and graduated from George Washington High School. During World War II, she worked as a secretary for The Maritime Commission and also worked for American Viscose. A few years later she was employed by a law firm in Old Town where she was an invaluable assistant to several lawyers and impressed them with her shorthand skills.

Lola shared a full married life of almost 70 years with her adoring husband, Emory. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Debbie Eakin and Tom; Mark Wilt and Cindy; Becky Kirchoff and Phil. She also is survived by four grandchildren and spouses and three great-grandchildren: Paul Wilt and Paige and Ryan; Jeffrey Eakin and Kelly and twins, Bryce and James; Jennifer Sloan and Andrew; and Peter Wilt.

Lola loved her Lord Jesus and was a lifetime member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Alexandria, VA and in later years attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Alexandria, VA. She was an active participant in the Walther League, taught Sunday School for 25 years, served with her husband on the Evangelism Committee, coordinated greeters to welcome members and newcomers to church, and helped wherever she could in her church life. A loving homemaker and gracious hostess, she enjoyed traveling, family outings, jazz music, and played the piano with gusto. Her sense of rhythm was superb and she still tapped her feet and shimmied her shoulders to music in her final days. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always gave them "lots of sugar". Lola touched the lives of so many with her humor, kindness and love.

The viewing will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315 on Wednesday, July 26th from 2 - 4 pm and 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Her funeral will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310 on Thursday, July 27th at 11 am. An additional viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at St. John's Lutheran Church. Christian Burial will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 2823 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302 immediately following the funeral service.

Directly after the Christian Burial at Ivy Hill Cemetery, a light luncheon will be provided at St. John's Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Lola's name to Immanuel Lutheran School Building Fund, 1801 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA 22301 or The Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141-8557.
