Obituary for John Walter Philbin

John Walter Philbin, retired Chicago Police Department officer with 27 years of service, decorated United States Marine Corps combat veteran, passed away peacefully on 17 August 2018 with his family by his side.
He was 73 and in his final months faced aggressive cancer with courage, grace, and a sense of humor. John was an accomplished, brave, and high-spirited man who was loved and respected by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Loving and cherished husband of Jacqueline (Luga) Philbin for 42 years. Devoted father of Jacqueline Philbin-Swiecki. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Katherine Philbin and siblings Elizabeth (Richard) Weber and Thomas Philbin. Dear brother of Mary Kay (Philbin) Cappitelli. Proud father-in-law of Joseph Swiecki.

The Chicago memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, 26 August, at Colletti’s restaurant located at 5707 N. Central Avenue, Chicago, IL, from 1-5 pm. Memorial tribute at 2:30 pm.
John’s inurnment ceremony will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, John requested donations be made to Fisher House Foundation, enabling combat wounded veterans’ families to be close to their loved ones during hospitalization. More information at:
