Howard C. Kavaler
A distinguished retired career foreign-service officer of 30 years passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018. Among other posts, Howard served as Permanent Representative to the US United Nations Mission in Nairobi and was a surviving victim of terrorism when the embassy, in Kenya, was bombed on August 7, 1998.
Howard was predeceased by his adored wife of 16 years Prabhi Kavaler, also a State Department employee and victim of terrorism stationed in Kenya, where she perished in the embassy bombing. He is survived by his loving daughters, Tara Lia and Maya Pia Kavaler; faithful and loving brother Richard Kavaler; beloved partner of six years Brenda Jacobs and cherished caretaker of his family, Victoria Salvan. Memorial service will be held at Temple Rodef Shalom, 2100 Westmoreland St. Falls Church, VA on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 11 AM. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Human Rights Watch.
