Obituary for George E. Hinkle

George E. Hinkle of Alexandria, VA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 6, 2017. He was born on February 20, 1951 in Salisbury, North Carolina. He graduated from Groveton High School in 1970. George passed away at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital where he dedicated his career for 37 years, even before the hospital opened its doors in 1976, and had been retired for the past four years. He suffered a massive heart attack after years of battling other health ailments. George was a friend and mentor to many. A wonderful father, grandfather, husband and best friend to his wife Cathy. He loved spending time with his family and friends, working with his hands, learning photography, gardening and traveling. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Hinkle and Faye Danby. Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years Cathy; two daughters, Melissa Pikul (Anthony Pikul), Chellye Promen (Kevin Promen); grandchildren Emma and Allyson Pikul, Ryan, Adam and Anna Promen; brothers Jeff and Duane Hinkle; sisters Gwen Gesswein and Jeri Klug, and many friends. Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA, on Thursday, November 9, from 6-8 PM where the funeral will be held on Friday, November 10 at 11 AM. Interment will be private on a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
