Obituary for Frank James Holub

Frank James Holub, Lt. Col. US Air Force, died peacefully at his residence on December 22, 2017. Frank was born on June 19, 1937 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Milos and Agnes (Hendrych) Holub. Frank grew up on a farm in the Boyd, WI community and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He spent over 20 years of distinguished service as a medical laboratory scientist in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was assigned to many bases in the United States and two tours at Clark AF Base in the Philippines. He held staff positions within the Office of Surgeon General of the Airforce and the Secretary of Defense. Upon retirement in 1986, Frank dedicated his life to the betterment of his community. Residing in Pinewood Lake, he realized the importance of volunteer participation in a self-managed community. As such, he actively led the various association committees. Over the last 30 years, he fully participated in the Maintenance, the Hospitality, the Finance, the Architectural Control, Neighborhood Watch, and Nominations committees. Understanding the importance of revitalization and future home values, Frank was a founding member of the Marketing Committee. He was a driving force the Muddy Hole Garden Club dedicated to the beautification of the Pinewood Lake community. A master chef, graduating from the Culinary Institute of Washington, he volunteered to be the head chef for community cookouts held throughout the years. Frank was also concerned about the renewal, revitalization, and appearance of the Richmond Highway and as such volunteered on various committees of the Southeast Fairfax County Development Corporation for over the last 25 years. Frank was a volunteer’s volunteer. He became a pillar of every organization he joined. His last significant contribution was playing Santa Claus in a local restaurant. His contributions to society will be missed. Frank is survived by his sister Jean Straka. He will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 1 PM. May Frank rest in peace.
