Obituary for David R. Myers

David R. Myers, 73, of Dumfries, VA passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. He was born on October 18, 1944 in Camden, New Jersey. He graduated from Camden High School in 1964. David enlisted in the US Air Force when he was 20 years old and served in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he work for Johnson pools and was involved in creating the pool at the white house, the tiger and polar bear exhibits at the National Zoo and several other large projects in the metropolitan area. He worked for 34 years for the US Postal Service as a motor vehicle operator until retirement in 2011. During his distinguished postal career he delivered mail to The U.S. Capitol and Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton. David had a passion for fast cars and loved drag racing. From his first 57 Chevy, to his Hemi Plymouth to multiple Corvettes, Trans Ams and Mustangs he loved to drive them all! He also really enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was inseparable from his parrot of 27 years BC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard A. Myers and Elsie Myers. Survivors include his brother Ron Myers (Helen Myers); son David J. Myers; daughter, Allison Hourcle (Larry Hourcle); grandchildren, Jake, Joshua and Ryan Hourcle; and many beloved friends. A funeral service will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315 on Wednesday, January 10 2018 at noon. With interment to follow immediately after at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
