Obituary for Anna Elizabeth Imrie

On Monday, August 21, 2017, Anna Elizabeth Imrie passed peacefully while living in Spring Hills Mt Vernon in Alexandria, VA. She was 92 years young. She was predeceased by her husband, Chief Master Sergeant (USAF) (ret) Aubrey Imrie. She is survived by her daughters Fran Anderson Smith and Anne Elizabeth Imrie of Virginia and her brother, Frank Lanza of Pennsylvania.

Anna, also known as “Honey” or Ann, proudly served for 30 years as a military spouse during the nations conflicts: Korean, Vietnam wars and across multiple continents. She lived in Japan 1955-1957 – returning home by 2 week military transport ship with their infant daughter (Anne Elizabeth) and a toddler (Frances). She accompanied her husband on Military assignments across the US and in Germany and Japan, before retiring in 1975 in the Washington DC area.

The family tours of duty included: Japan, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Germany, and Virginia. She visited Italy, Austria, and the Berlin Wall. She actively absorbed the culture of her adopted countries: In Japan, she learned flower arranging and made Geisha dolls. While in South Carolina, she took cake decorating classes. In Germany, she painted under the tutelage of local artists.

Following their retirement in 1975, Ann and Aubrey settled in Washington DC/Alexandria where she was active with the Lion’s Club and raising her family, and supported her grandchild (Carrie), and soon to follow great grandchildren (Maya and Nathan).

Ann was an avid Washington Redskins and Yankees baseball fan and enjoyed watching games with her husband. She will be remembered for her great beauty, sense of style, and loving and longstanding friendships.
